Paul Bertrand DuMontelle was born June 22, 1933 in Kankakee, IL, to Lester V DuMontelle, Sr and Helen Edith McKinstry. He grew up in Momence, IL, and graduated from High School there in 1951. He enrolled at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN where he was a member of Men's Hall Association. There he met his future wife, Dollie Bridgewater; they married on June 5, 1955, before moving for Paul's graduate studies at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. His work as a geologist took them to the Catskills in NY; St. Paul and Hastings, MN; Egypt, PA, Hauber, WY; then to Lead, SD, when he joined Homestake Gold Mining Co. In 1963, they moved to Urbana, IL where they remained until he retired in 1996 from the Illinois State Geological Survey. He then spent 10 years as gatekeeper at the Assembly Hall. They moved in 2018 to Indianapolis, IN to be nearer family. Paul was actively involved with his professional organizations SME, GSA, AEG, AIPG, Sigma Xl, CUSEC, as well as a Registered Geologist in IL, CA, and IN. .He was co-ordinator for the State Illinois Junior Academy of Science competition for many years. He actively participated in Urbana 1st United Methodist Church, Lodges #636 and #157 AFAM, Valley of Danville Consistory, Kiwanis, Scouting, SAR and as Boneyard Creek Commissioner. He worked over 15 years at welcoming receptions for new American citizens.

 

Preceded in death by his parents and brother Les, Jr. He is survived by his wife Dollie, their children John, Jeff (Janine), Jo Ellen (George), Jim (Vicki) and Jay (Diane), 12 grandchildren, 7 nieces and nephews, 2 great-granddaughters and two special families Ronald/Kris Berman Family and Wen-June/Catty Su Family.
