Patricia Berniece (Grove) Burris (born September 23, 1937) laid her burden down on May 28th, 2020, seven months after her pancreatic cancer diagnosis and recovery from successful surgery.
She was preceded in death by her older son, Kevin Burris (2017), her husband of 60 years, John Burris (2018), and her sister Phyllis (Grove) Dejarnett (2001). She is survived by her younger son (Christopher Burris), a grandson (Andrew Burris), and a sister and a brother (Frieda and Buddy Grove).
Although she sometimes mused that her epitaph should read “she never knew who she really was,” Patricia was many things to many people. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an artist, a gardener, and a woman of faith. She was happiest when those things blended together: when she could dig in the dirt and make something beautiful with a heart full of gratitude that the people she loved were doing well.
In her fullest moments, Patricia’s care would radiate out to others also, especially small children. She’d make it a point to find at least one nice thing to say to the strangers she’d cross paths with. Many were touched by the kindness of this classic “fiery little redhead.”
In her last days, Patricia looked forward to peace and reunion. We wish her well on her journey. We thank her. She will be missed.
