Norma Jean Lowe

July 10, 1937 — October 1, 2019

Norma Jean (Lyon) Lowe, 82, of Fishers, Indiana passed away on Tuesday October 1, 2019.

Norma was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on July 10, 1937, the daughter of Moses Frederick and Ella Ethel (Evans) Lyon. Norma was the youngest member of a large, close-knit family.

Norma is a graduate of Portsmouth High School and was employed at Kobackers Department Store following graduation. On July 21, 1957, she married Ronald (Ron) Morgan Lowe, also of Portsmouth, Ohio.

Later in 1957, they moved to Columbus, Ohio where Norma was employed with Western Electric (her husband Ron soon joined her there). In 1959, Norma left that job to start a family. Many years later, she worked part-time at the Granville, Ohio IGA grocery store, first as the baker (where her cakes and pastries were always in high demand) and later as a cashier.
Norma was a renowned cook and enjoyed planning and preparing hearty meals for her family and friends. She was also very creative, designing games and activities for her children and grandchildren. She once wrote and directed a school play, even designing and creating the costumes and props. She was active in her sons' school activities, often serving as a "Room Mother" helping the teachers conduct special events. In addition, she tutored her sons and helped them develop good study habits which served them well as they progressed through their academic programs.

Norma and Ron retired to Hudson, Florida in 1994, where she became a "regular" at the local bingo games. She made many friends and always displayed a wonderful sense of humor. She also enjoyed doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles and accompanying Ron to his classic car shows. In her spare time, Norma created many handmade quilts, which are now family heirlooms for those fortunate enough to have received one as a gift.

Ron and Norma relocated to Fishers, Indiana in 2012, returning to Florida as "snowbirds" each winter.

Perhaps Norma's greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The kids adored their "Nana" and always looked forward to their visits. Norma babysat her grandson 1-2 days a week for several years, developing a very special bond.
That grandson now has a baby boy of his own (Watson Gregory Lowe), who celebrated his first birthday recently. He brought abundant joy to Norma's life, as did her other great-grandchild, beautiful Chloe Nicole Parsons and step-great-grandchildren Kallie Rose and Caroline Davis. Norma's greatest passion in life was her family. She was protective, nurturing, and extremely proud of their accomplishments. She was an integral part of all of their lives and will be greatly missed.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Harold, Bruce, and Donald. She is survived by her husband Ronald, children Gregory (Kathy) Lowe, Gary (Cindy) Lowe, Mark Lowe, David Lowe, grandchildren Erica (Shawn) Parsons, Alison Lowe, Sean (Alexa) Lowe, step-grandchildren Brian, Samantha, and Keith Neece, the aforementioned great-grandchildren Chloe Parsons and Watson Lowe, step-great-grandchildren Kallie Rose and Caroline Davis, sister Virginia (Eugene) Salzman, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous dear friends.

Following a private showing for the immediate family, Norma will be laid to rest on Saturday October 5, 2019 at 9:00 A.M. in Gravel Lawn Cemetery, 9088 Co. Rd. 1025 South Fortville, Indiana 46040.
