Nina JoAnn Dyke, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Born in Loveland, Colorado, to Billy Lair and Nina Henery, she was raised in Greeley, Colorado. JoAnn traveled alone across the country by train at the age of 18, arriving at Union Station, Indianapolis, in November of 1952, and married her husband of more than 52 years, Charles E. Dyke (deceased), a week later.
She retired from IPS in 1999, after 25 years of service. Serving on the Board of Directors for both the TAB Recreation Program and the Indianapolis-Scarborough Peace Games, as well as organizing leagues, scorekeeping for countless games, and occasionally coaching, she was very involved in the activities of her children. JoAnn loved to travel, keeping written journals of many of her adventures. A brilliant storyteller, she also loved to read, and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever, and Chicago Cubs. More than anything, she was the biggest fan of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Charles S. (Barb) Dyke, Belleville, MI; Brenda J. Dyke, Whiteland, IN; Lynda S. (Keith) Barker, Westfield, IN; Anita M. (Rob) Richardson, Greenfield, IN. Her grandchildren, Brad (Sabrina) Dyke, Indianapolis, IN; Ben Barker, Bremen, IN; Sara Barker, Muncie, IN; Maggie (Zack) Loudenburg, Greenfield, IN; John Richardson, Rossville, IN; Courtney (Steven) Arvola, Greenfield, IN; her great-grandchildren, Cora, Henry, & Della Loudenburg; and good friend Sue Hammer.
