Nikki Lorene Nelson Barton was born on January 13, 1951, in Anchorage, Alaska, to a lifetime of adventures. She embarked on the greatest adventure of all on November 15th, and while we cannot join her yet, we are comforted knowing she is in the company of her parents and other loved ones who’ve gone before.
She is survived by her husband, J. Bernard Barton, her daughter, Christine Barton-Holmes, son-in-law Dan Holmes, and brothers Steven Nelson and Jeff Nelson.
Nikki was an avid reader and gardener, and earned a certificate in Master Gardening from Purdue University. As good with numbers as she was with plants, she worked at Landmark Properties, LLC for 17 years as their Controller and, after semi-retirement, Bookkeeper.
She met and married the love of her life, J. Bernard Barton, in Princeton, New Jersey. They were in their 50th year of marriage, and in that time raised one daughter, cared for several poodles, and restored three different historic houses in Manchester, England; Patriot, Indiana; and Lebanon, Indiana. Together they were active in the Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist in Indianapolis, and in the theatre and senior communities in Lebanon.
As ceremonies would not fully capture her sense of humor and fun, there will be no ceremony, but if you are so moved, she was an ardent supporter of the World Wildlife Fund.
