Nelma Posey

May 12, 1942 — July 17, 2023

Fortville

Nelma Posey was born on May 12, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Daniel Watkins and Eugenia Blakemore Watkins.  She transitioned on July 17, 2023, at the age of 81.  Nelma was the 2nd of 14 children (from two sets of parents).  Ten of her siblings preceded her in death:  Earnest; Veretta Jean; Wardell; Brad; Clarence; James; David; Deborah; Dorsey; and Darrin.

Also preceding her in death, the love of her life, Retired USMC Gunnery Sergeant Donald Posey.  They married on July 15, 1959.  Three children were born to this union, devoted daughter, Kris, and sons, Colin, and Kent.

Grandchildren mourning her passing, Bernard; Marques; Kris (Posey Williams); Christian and Nicholas Ricks; Shannon; Shun; Michael; Christian; Giselle and Erick, along with ten great grandchildren.

Her memory lives on in siblings Jerome and Darlene Watkins; Denice Taylor Scott; and Robert Taylor.

Nelma dreamed of being a dancer as a little girl, and while she did not dance across the world's stages, she did dance on American Bandstand, and was able to travel the world while supporting her husband at military bases in Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and ultimately Orlando, Florida where they retired.  Additional stateside travel took her to Texas, Louisiana, Nevada, Georgia, Indiana, and Washington.  She also traveled beyond the U.S. to attend her son's wedding in Spain, vacation with her daughter in Mexico, and her grandson's birthplace in Italy.

While separated from her siblings and grandchildren by the miles, she forged close relationships with Bernard, Marques, Kris, Christian and Nicholas.  Her character was beyond reproach and she instilled fine qualities in those loved by her. She reached her retirement goals, and lived a proud, independent life.  She was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Kris, and favorite son-in-law, Ranson in her final years.  Also present in her final year with a warm heart and caring hands, bonus daughter, Kisha Hague.  Here's a final salute to a wonderful daughter, sister, career USMC military wife, mother, grandmother, and friend . . .
