Nancy Ellen (Barnett) Taylor, 86, of Indianapolis, IN passed away March 13, 2024. She was born August 11, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Oliver and Addie Barnett. She was the third of nine children.
She was a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School class of 1955.
Nancy was employed and retired from Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center, where she worked as a finance clerk.
She was married June 2, 1956, to John W. Taylor and that marriage lasted for 56 years until his death in 2011. To that union three children were born, Angela, Juan, and Neikolyn. Her son Juan preceded her in death June 28, 2004.
Nancy was a voracious reader! She loved reading biographies and autobiographies especially. Anyone who truly knows her can attest without a doubt, that there was no one else more on the ready for a good game of Scrabble than our mother, Nancy! There was always a board either on or near her dining room table on the ready for at least one good match during your visit.
She had also learned to embrace technology in order to take her love for word games to the internet with the "Words with Friends" app on her "tablet".
For me and Neikolyn as well as her grandchildren and some great grands the "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" theme song is an intricate part of the song track of our lives!
She was a true sports fan and loved her Indiana Pacers and hardly ever missed a televised game. The few live games she was able to attend were very special moments that she treasured!
Another great love of Nancy's was cooking, and she excelled at it! So many of her delicious dishes will be missed. Her strawberry, german chocolate, sweet potato and chocolate cookie sheet cakes, as well as sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, and chicken and dumplings to name a few.
But her greatest love and legacy was family! There was nothing she wouldn't and didn't do for family! This love encompassed all her family to such an extent that each and every one of her family members from siblings, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and there are - quite a few - felt and had their own special and unique relationship with her and it was GENUINE and REAL!
And because family was so dear to her she leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Angela and Neikolyn; her son by marriage, Rodney; grandchildren, Precious, Amber, Dorien, Ashton Sr., Juan, Devon, Madison, Taylor and Rodney III; great grandchildren, Mariah, Samara, Jade, Madison, Dorien II and Daniyah; great great grandchildren, Ashton , Ziah and Khi'ani. Sisters, Eunice (Albert) and Deborah; nieces, Cheryl, Kimberly, Karole, Karen, Stacey, Shawndolyn, Yvette, Ylonnda, Michelle, and Crystal; nephews, Walter (Tony), Virgil, Kevin, Reuben, Antonio (Tony), Kendall, Alonzo, Gerry, Michael B, Eric, Steven, Reginald (Reggie), Imhotep, Michael T., Ronald and Randy; cousins, Clarence (Slim), Lorraine, Kathryn, Linda and Patricia; over 45 great and great great grand nieces and nephews and even though you were not all individually named her love for you was just as strong!
We lost this family treasure and the void this loss leaves will never be filled in this lifetime...
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 10 am - 12 pm with a funeral service at 12 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis. Burial will follow in Washington Park North Cemetery.
"Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God."
