Nancy Claire (Pryor) Smith, 75, passed away on July 1, 2022. Born March 14,1947 at Camp Lejune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, she was the only daughter of Lawrence Edward and Virginia Ellen (Burke) Pryor.
Nancy graduated from Arlington High School in 1965. After high school, she volunteered at the hospital as a Candy striper. Nancy was married to Frank Smith on October 5th, 1968. They were married 52 years. She was a homemaker until her son was grown. Nancy worked in the deli at Marsh Supermarkets, then ADE (Auto Dealer Exchange) in order to put her son EB through college. .
Nancy was a lifelong member of the Irvington United Methodist Church where she was involved in the women’s ministry and taught Bible school.
Nancy never met a stranger. She loved children and loved being a mom. She was a socialite. Everyone loved Nancy; she was fun to be around, trustworthy and had the best laugh. Her sense of humor was on point. She loved deeply and you could see the love in her eyes when her family walked into the room.
She was a huge Elvis fan. Nancy also had a love affair with Frisch’s Big Boy, all things chocolate, milkshakes, malts, ice cream and Coca-Cola. She was an avid reader and rarely could be found without a book in her purse.
In 1984, Nancy lost her eldest son Frankie to childhood leukemia. That tragedy led her to passionately volunteer for Love Letters, an organization dedicated to sending cards, letters and small gifts to terminally ill children.
Nancy is survived by her son Ernest "EB" (Kristina) and grandson Andrew, all of Flower Mound, Texas, her younger brother Steve Pryor (Barb), and close family friend Johnny Phipps, all of Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her son Frank "Frankie" A. Smith II, brother Lawrence Pryor and husband Frank A. Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 23 at Irvington United Methodist Church, 30 North Audubon Road, Indianapolis, Indiana with calling from 11-11:45 with services following at 12.
