Nadine K. Ferris, 70, of Greencastle (IN), left this earth peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, knowing she was deeply loved by her family yet knowing there was something greater awaiting her.
Nadine was born on July 17, 1952, in Seattle, WA to Margaretha & Deane McLeod, both precede her in death. She briefly lived in Guam as a child while her father was a physician in the Navy before her family settled down in Washington state. She relocated to Indiana as a young adult.
Nadine is survived by two brothers and one sister: Doug McLeod (Judy), Ken McLeod (Beth) and Maureen Peterson. She was so proud of her nieces and nephew and loved them very much; Jocelyn (Will) Davis, Blythe (Andy) Scherrer, Sam McLeod and Molly McLeod.
She is also survived by her husband of 32 years, Dave Ferris, whom she married on June 25th, 1990, and built a wonderful life together. They lived in Coatesville for many years where they owned/operated a landscaping nursery business on their personal property. They moved to Greencastle in 1999.
Nadine is survived by one daughter; Nikki, who married Jared Stueckel and gave her two adorable grandsons; Micah (5) and Mason (4). Nikki and her family reside in the St. Louis area. Nadine was also a mother figure to Mechelle (Bill) Lantrip for more than 30 years. She loved Mechelle’s children as her own grandsons; Dakoda (27) and Garret (21).
Nadine gained two stepsons upon her marriage to Dave; Ben Ferris, who precedes her in death and Don Ferris (Greencastle).
Nadine is a 1984 graduate of IU School of Nursing. Her career spanned from pediatrics, surgery recovery, home healthcare to senior living. She retired from nursing in 2017. Retirement provided more time for three of her favorite things, coffee, chocolate and Candy Crush. She also enjoyed cheering on the Colts.
From line dancing with Nikki, going to wineries with Mechelle and attending sporting events for her grandsons, Nadine was always up for making memories with her family. They were truly her pride and joy.
Nadine was a lover of all animals, especially dogs. She rescued several fur babies in her lifetime and provided them with a wonderful home. Her sassy attitude and caring demeanor will be greatly missed by all who love her. She was a strong, independent woman and fiercely protective of those she loved.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hendricks Regional Health for the exceptional care they provided.
Per Nadine’s request, she will be cremated, and no funeral services will be held. The family is honoring her wishes.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a local animal shelter in Nadine’s memory.
