Myrna Ruth Dawson

Myrna Ruth (Drewry) Dawson passed peacefully passed at 11:36PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.  Myrna was born in Union City, Tennessee on November 19, 1938, to Ray Drewry and Ruth Earline (Bryson) Drewry. 

Myrna gave birth to two boys, Daniel K. Tippit II and Dennis, with her first husband Daniel K. Tippit.  Myrna married Joseph (Joe) Peter Dawson on July 22, 1963.  Myrna and Joe raised Daniel (Dan) and Dennis (Den) and then welcomed two children together: Paul Allen, born December 8, 1970, and Patrick Andrew, born August 8, 1973.

Myrna is preceded in death by her husband Joe, November 4, 2023, parents Ray Drewry and Ruth Earline Griggs and stepfather Elwood Griggs as well as sons Dennis and Patrick.  Myrna is survived by her sisters Barbara Mottin and Meg Freet and sons Daniel K. Tippit II and Paul Dawson.  She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Myrna was a longtime parishioner of St. Simon and Holy Spirit Catholic Churches in Indianapolis.  She enjoyed volunteering at both churches as well as the St. Vincent DePaul Society.  Myrna supported many organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Doctors Without Borders, Easter Seals, AARP Foundation and the Catholic Church.  She dreamed of winning the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes for the SOLE PURPOSE of helping others, especially some of her close girlfriends.

Myrna worked several jobs while performing the role of homemaker.  Some of the companies that she worked for were Londoff Bowling Lanes in St. Louis, Missouri, Grapho in Lawrence, Indiana where she met Joe, as well as North Eastwood Bowling Alley in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Myrna finally worked alongside her sons Dennis and Paul for Consumer Satellite Systems / National Programming Service of Fishers, Indiana.

Myrna loved playing euchre and was a member of a card group with several girlfriends.  Myrna had many friends from Club East and Holy Spirit Church.  She cared for her friends as she did her family.  Myrna was, as her husband Joe, always willing to lend a hand and help out in any way possible.  She enjoyed sending greeting cards for her friends and family too.

Services for Myrna, as well as her husband Joe, will be held at Holy Spirit Church located at 7243 E. 10^th Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46219.  Visitation will begin at 10AM and Funeral Mass at 11AM.  A Mercy Meal, hosted by the Holy Spirit Parish, will follow Mass.
