Myles John Alistair Grant

Myles passed away on December 20, 2020 after a short illness, with his family by his side. He was 75. Myles was the Director of the St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Evansville, Indiana for many years.

Myles was born in Marton, New Zealand on July 24, 1945, the youngest child of Dorothy and John Grant.

He graduated from Otago Medical School in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1969. After a two year internship in Nelson, New Zealand he and his family relocated in 1972 to Boston in the United States of America. He completed his pediatric training at Boston City Hospital and then moved to Toronto, Canada where he trained as a Neonatologist at The Hospital for Sick Children.

In 1977 he became the sole Neonatologist at St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Evansville, Indiana, where he worked until his retirement in 2017. Over those forty years the NICU grew in size to employ five Neonatologists.

Myles was an enthusiastic cook, gardener, sailor and art collector. He and his wife Anne traveled extensively over the years visiting many countries. They moved to Indianapolis in 2017 to be closer to their son and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anne; son Jonas and wife Jennifer of Lake Tahoe; daughter Charlotte and husband Robert, grandsons Maximilian, Jack and Han of Austin, Texas; son Sam and wife Nikki, grandchildren Fiona, Luca and Finn of Indianapolis; sister Janice and husband Winston; brother Neil and wife Niki and many nieces and nephews in New Zealand; his three adored cats Minnie, Lola, Nico and a little red dog Izzy. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Myles was cremated at Indiana Funeral Care in Indianapolis. Memorial services will be private. Gifts may be made in memory of Myles to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the March of Dimes using the links below.
