Miriam Frances Verhines

Miriam Frances Verhines, 94 of Fishers IN. passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Miriam was born to the late James I. Fultz and Edith C. Fultz “Taylor” on May 21, 1929, in Martensville, IN.

Throughout Miriam’s life she lived in many places including Martensville, IN. Indianapolis, IN. Sandusky, OH. Lima, OH. Largo, FL. Noblesville, IN and Fishers, IN. She was married to Junior Rapp, Robert Slocum Jr. in January of 1951, and Rev. James Verhines in December of 1984. Her hobbies included reading and crocheting – she loved to make blankets for the family newborn, she never tired of watching old westerns, she liked watching football on tv, she also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Miriam was a member of the First Bible Church in Indianapolis, IN. She also sang in the choir and participated in the Ladies Group at church.

Miriam is survived by her children; Joyce Faye George (Slocum) of Greenfield, IN. Karen Elaine Templeton (Fultz) of Indianapolis, IN. Darla Kay Kern (Slocum) of Largo, FL. Michael Wayne (Deborah Lynn) Slocum of Fishers, IN. Mark Alan Slocum of Arcadia, IN. grandchildren; Betty Jo, Michael, Ryan, Travis, Caleb, Joycelyn, Trina, Kara, Billy, David, Eddie, Robbie, great-grandchildren;  Kelly, Michael, Nicholas, Zachery, Michael Wayne, Tristan, Mikey, Braxton, Jasmine, Savaughna, Sage, Mark, Dade, Gabby, Orion, Wyatt, Marcus, Riley, Danielle, DJ, Dakota, Devyn, Dustin, Eric, Gary, Galen, Gaige, Gavin, Nicholas, Jacob, Thomas, Jennifer, Megan, David, Matthew, Mellisa, great-great-grandchildren; Elias, Jaxson, Cheynne, Tiffani, Trinaty, Bryan Jr., Dillon, Marylynn, Gary, Joe, Grason, Gabryanna, Jesinda, Kevin Jr., siblings; Evelyn M. Frank (Fultz), Jim C. Fultz, Doris A. Bailey (Fultz), and Karen E. Templeton (Fultz).

Miriam is preceded in death by her spouses; Junior Rapp, Robert Slocum Jr. – February 2001   Rev. James R. Verhines – December 1999, grandchildren; Richard Lee Olson – December 2020; Stephanie Marie Jones (Slocum) – June 2011; Gary D. Templeton, Jr. – December 2017, siblings; Charles I. Fultz, Roselyn L. Rich (Fultz), Maurice D. Fultz, and Mavis C. Baxter (Fultz).

Services will take place on January 6, 2024, at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, IN. at 1:00pm, Visitation will be from 12:00pm till time of service.
