Mildred A. Hullinger      10/6/1931-11/04/2022

Mildred A. (Orr) Hullinger was born to Paul H. and Alice (Conroy) Orr on October 6, 1931 in Marion, Indiana. Mildred graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1949 and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. After high school Mildred worked at Delta Electric, where she met Otto (Bud) Hullinger. Their romance blossomed while enjoying skating at the Idyl Wyld Roller Rink. They married in 1956, sharing 65 years of marriage before Bud’s passing in April 2022. They had three children, Michael Hullinger (Carla), Theresa Hullinger (Eric) and Mark Hullinger (Kim) and one grandson, Nathan Miller, who all brought Mildred great joy.

Bud and Mildred were always together enjoying their life adventure. They enjoyed traveling throughout their lives including trips when the kids were young, summers at the lake, and then continued on having many more great trips as a couple. They especially enjoyed a cruise they took in later years with line dancing friends. Mildred said she felt lucky, grateful and content that she had visited every place she had hoped to see.

Mildred was one of seven siblings and had 23 nieces and nephews, many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was very special to her sisters and brothers and was a fun Aunt who loved to laugh. Mildred had a great sense of humor and although she was considered to be a quiet person, she could also be a jokester at times. A quote from Mildred’s high school yearbook described her well, “Mischief flickers behind the mask of a quiet face”.

Mildred was a terrific Euchre player, loved line dancing and had developed wonderful lifelong friendships in the process. She enjoyed her weekly sister lunches and loved being with family. In later years, she and Bud enjoyed playing the casino slot machines and also going with friends to hear favorite local bands. Since she had a sweet tooth and her all time favorite drink was soda, she could always be found with a pop in her hand and sweet and salty treats by her side.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed. Mildred is survived by her three children, their spouses and her grandson, her sister, Kathleen and her husband Don Little, a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Orr, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Jenny Hullinger, as well as by many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret (Margie) and Charles Sharp, Pauline and Charles Whirl; her brother Paul (Cap) Orr, sister Marialyce Orr, and brother and sister-in-law, Michael (Mick) and Linda Orr, and also nephews and nieces and many Hullinger family members.

Mildred died on November 4th at Century Villa in Greentown, Indiana. The family sincerely thanks the staff at Century for their care of and concern for Mildred, and is especially grateful to a very special, caring and devoted nurse, Linda Hughes. The family is also extremely grateful for Elara Caring’s amazing hospice nurses, special aides and case worker for their kind and wonderful care of Mildred.
