Michelle Jeschke

August 23, 1969 — May 7, 2021

Nehemiah 8:10- For the joy of the Lord is my strength.

Michelle “Mikki” Jeschke, passed peacefully at her home on May 7, 2021, following a 12 year challenge with metastasized breast cancer. Mikki was born in Lafayette, Indiana on August 23, 1969, to Tom and Mary Annette Poynter, and she grew up on Hamilton Lake in Hamilton, IN. She was married for 22 years to Doug Jeschke, and she relished being the mother of sons, Ben (17) and Danny (14).

Mikki graduated with a B.A in psychology from Marion University, and had great memories of earning her M.S. in College Student Personnel from UW LaCrosse. Mikki spent the majority of her career with IUPUI, where her outstanding service and personal impact will be memorialized with the Mikki Jeschke Peer Advising Scholarship in the Psychology Department, and the Mikki Jeschke Advisor of the Year Awards for IUPUI.

Mikki enjoyed most outdoor activities. She especially loved gardening at home and hiking and camping with her family and friends. Mikki was an active participant with the Indy SurviveOars dragon boat racing team, paddling and steering in regional competitions, and serving in various leadership roles. Mikki loved being involved with this incredibly supportive group of women. Mikki was also very committed to Heartland Church, in Fishers, where she developed an abiding trust in God, and lifelong friendships, as a result of serving at the church and leading and participating in small groups.

Mikki is survived by her husband and two sons, as well as her mother Mary Annette, sister, Christi (Bill) Thomas, brother, Mike (Dodi) Poynter, as well as a host of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, all of whom she loved deeply. Mikki was proceeded in death by her father, Tom Poynter.

The family would like to thank Mikki’s Dream Team who cared for her in her final months as well as Heritage Hospice for their amazing love and care. We also want to thank everyone for their prayers, meals and support throughout Mikki’s cancer journey.

Services will be held at Heartland Church, 14900 E 126th St, Fishers, IN. Her visitation will be Friday, May 14, 3pm-5pm and 6pm-8pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 10am. (Facemasks are requested to be worn for the visitation and service). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mikki Jeschke Memorial Account at Indiana Members Credit Union, which has been set up to help with Ben and Danny’s college fund.
