Dr. Michael H. Lashmet,
Loving husband and father of two died of natural causes on December 4, 2022. He was 88 years old.
Dr. Lashmet was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, grew up in Petoskey Michigan and graduated from the University High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His undergraduate education was at the University of Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1958.
He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Indiana University Medical Center in 1962. He remained, part time, on the faculty becoming an associate clinical professor in 1976. He was the director of the Ophthalmology Pathology Laboratory which served much of the State of Indiana.
He began his Ophthalmology practice in 1962. and saw its growth to become Lashmet, Spitzberg, Denny, Abrams and Lody. During his career he made philanthropic medical missions to foreign countries including Algeria, Ceylon, Hatti, and Brazil. He retired in 2000. During retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife of 67 years. At the suggestion of his wife, he became active in playing duplicate bridge, achieving a rank of Silver Life Master.
He belonged to several professional organizations including Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, Diplomat to the American Board of Ophthalmology, and the Georgiana Dvorak Theobald Society. He served as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lashmet is survived by his wife Joanne whom he married in 1955, a daughter Michele Ann Greene, a son Peter K. Lashmet, II, five grandchildren 7 great grandchildren.
