Michael Herman Konnert

Michael Herman Konnert, age 82, passed away on October 4, 2024, at his home in Indianapolis, IN. He was born May 1, 1942, to George Ulrich Konnert and Juanita Edith (Sherk) Konnert in Toledo, OH, where he lived with his family in the Point Place area. He graduated from Woodward High School, Bowling Green University and Ball State where he received his master’s degree in education. 

He married Carolyn Jean Kemper on August 6, 1966. They moved to Greene County, Indiana in 1972 and he served as the Elementary Librarian with the Linton-Stockton School System from 1972 to 1995. After retiring from teaching, he continued to work at the Vigo County Public Library as the director of the outreach department. During his time as a teacher and outreach librarian he enjoyed reading to the children and sharing his love of books and reading by volunteering to read to children in preschool and as a part of the Head Start program in Vigo County. 

Mike was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Linton, IN and served as an assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts Troop in Jasonville, IN. He enjoyed fishing the numerous ponds and lakes in and around Greene County and was an avid gardener. 

Michael is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Jean; son, David Michael Konnert; daughter, Beth Ellen (Scott) Watkins; and grandchildren, Brody Douglas Watkins and Claire Elizabeth Watkins. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Ellen) Konnert from Oakland, CA; and sister, Kathleen Konnert of Toledo, OH. He was also loved and is remembered by 6 nieces and their families. 

Services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Servant’s of Christ Lutheran Church, 7650 Oaklandon Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46236

There will be an opportunity to visit with the family starting at 3pm, followed by a memorial service at 4pm. After the service, there will be a dinner held in the Fellowship Hall for any who would like to attend. 

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Rock Steady Boxing at Rocksteadyboxing.org/donations or to the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinsons.org
