Michael "Mike" Jay Hummel of Camby, Indiana, entered into eternal peace at the age of 53 on Saturday, July 17, 2021 surrounded by his family and friends after succumbing to his battle with cancer. Mike was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin on April 14, 1968 to Roger and Susanne Hummel. He graduated from Frederick High School in Colorado in 1986. Shortly after graduation Mike returned to Indiana to be with his mother and siblings and to begin a family. After high school Mike began his lifelong career as a hardworking dedicated member of the construction industry where he retired in 2020 as a foreman. One of Mike's dreams came true when he opened Mugg-N-Pye, a successful pizza restaurant, located in Monrovia, Indiana, modeled after a restaurant he worked at while attending high school.
Mike was a loving and devoted father to his children and stepchildren. He was a pillar of strength and support for his children, family, and friends. His strong demeanor was overshadowed by his gentle, kind, and caring spirit. He strived to help others be the best they can be and to excel at all endeavors. Mike enjoyed vacationing with his wife and family and creating cherished lasting memories.
Mike was passionate about motorcycles and classic cars. His interest in motorcycles led him to customize his Honda Fury. Mike's desire for bringing life to his custom visions took him on many journeys, including traveling across the United States and Thailand to deliver and install custom Fury pipes he designed and built. Mike was an instrumental part of the Fury forum leading him to host a Fury motorcycle event in Paragon, Indiana. After retirement, Mike focused his efforts on rebuilding his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. Mike enjoyed interacting with other Chevrolet enthusiasts and sharing his stories on the TRI5MOB forum. Although Mike was not able to finish this project, it is a true example of his work ethic, dedication, and commitment to his visions. When you talked to Mike about his projects you could feel his passion. Mike has left a lasting footprint on countless individuals he encountered through the various projects he was involved with throughout his life. Mike took pride in everything he did and would not sacrifice perfection at any cost.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Kim; mother of his children Renee'; children Amanda and Bryan (mother of children Cass); stepchildren Jessica (Rob) Evans, Tiffany (father of children Zack), and Kendra (father of child Leo); mother Susanne Aldrich; siblings Lisa (father of children Robert) Blair, Scott (Becky) Hummel, and Tisha (Alltus) Edwards; grandchildren Asher and Wren; step-grandchildren Gabe, John, Layla, and Kynlee; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many other beloved relatives and extended family.
