Michael Gates
July 1, 1954 — April 13, 2020
On Monday, April 13, 2020, Michael Edward Gates went home to be with our Heavenly Father after a long illness.
Mike was born July 1, 1954 in Muncie, IN to Jack and Joyce (Threet) Gates and graduated
from Muncie Central High School in 1972. He married Cheryl (Bishop) Gates on October 18, 1980. He worked quality control for Keihin, IPT Manufacturing LLC, in Greenfield, IN. He was a member of Huntsville Good Shepherd Community Church in Pendleton. Before becoming unable, He enjoyed running the church sound board, he & his wife set-up cared for the FB page.
Music was a huge part of his life and made him incredibly happy. He had a love for all genres and could name almost any tune. He played drums for 60 years and got the most joy when doing so for the Lord. He would say, spreading glory with them was a gift given to him from God. Other hobbies included working on computers, all things Nascar, Funny car and car shows.
Mike had a sweet laugh that made others smile and his smile would light up a room. He was usually quiet, didn't say much, but when He was funny. He had a quick wit that people would say cracked them up and they looked forward to hearing what had to say next. "Pop" loved playing hide and seek with his grandbabies and make them laugh. Anytime He heard them his face would soften & joy would come across. He Truly loved His Family, His Chruch Family and he also loved the Lord.
He is survived by his Wife of 40 years, Cheryl (Bishop) Gates; Daughter and Son-in-law, Shannon and Matt Chittenden; Daughter and Son-in-law, Shyanne and Jacob Payton; Son and Daughter-in-law, Skylar and Danielle Gates; two Granddaughters, Mariah and Makayla Chittenden; four Grandsons, Ryker and Gunner Payton, Maverick and Dominick Gates; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; Father, Jack E. Gates; Brother, Richard Gates; and Sister, Kimberly Gates. He is preceeded in passing by his Mother, Joyce (Threet) Gates.
A Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held later. (date and time to be determined)
