Michael D. Hanson

Michael D. Hanson, 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, surrounded by his wife and loving family.

Michael was born on August 14, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Carlisle Dean and Dawn Irene (VanBuskirk) Hanson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlisle and Dawn Hanson of Fort Wayne, Indiana and his favorite dog companion, Nipper.

Michael is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Kock-Hanson of Indianapolis, Indiana; children, Jay Miller and his wife Tonya of Lexington, South Carolina, Trisha Hanson Kilgore and her husband Bill of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Shannon Hanson Durham and partner Justin Schaadt of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Mackenzie Miller, Jill Miller, Carly Miller, Jessica Kammer and her husband Kyle, Joshua Donahue and his wife Samantha, Janelle Alleje and her husband Tomas, Bryson Durham, Olivia Schaadt; great grandchildren, Wyatt Kammer, Eloise Kammer, Ava Kammer, Lily Donahue, Madison Alleje, Mateo Alleje; sister, Linda Hanson Marzi of Kileen, Texas and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Michael spent more than 22 years as a police officer protecting the citizens of Indianapolis. He retired from IMPD in March 2015. He previously worked for Western and Southern Life Insurance from 1979-1993.

Michael was a talented musician and was a drummer in several bands over many years. He loved to travel with his wife, family and good friends Chuck and Debbie Fairchild.  Michael was deeply loved by his family and will be missed greatly.
