May Frances (Burney) Hoffman, the daughter to the late Rev. James Henry and Maggie Burney, was born November 3rd, 1938 in Cromona (Haymond), KY. She departed this earthly life peacefully at Robin Run Health Center on January 16th, 2021.
May had a twenty-year career in the United States Postal Service as a Zipped Mail Translator in Cincinnati, OH and Baltimore, MD, retiring in 1985. She relocated to Appalachia VA, where she helped senior citizens as a Residential Assistant and in respite care, while also earning a diploma in Medical Transcription.
She was a talented seamstress, and gifted in fiber arts, creating macrame and crochet projects for family and friends. Her custom crocheted afghans were especially cherished, as they inspired all who received them.
While in Appalachia, May attended and served as the Financial Secretary for Macedonia Baptist Church as well as Spirit & Truth Church in Kingsport, TN. After moving to Indianapolis, she joined and faithfully attended Ambassador Baptist Church in Indianapolis, where she served at a Greeter. She was known as a very spiritual woman and was well loved. Most of all, she enjoyed being a servant of the Lord, sharing her love of Jesus Christ and spiritual gifts with others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. James Henry and Maggie Moss Burney; sisters, Ruby Burney, Louise Harris, Helen Lewis, and Jeanetta Johnson; brothers, Harry Shephard, Curtis, Lawrence, and Charles, Burney; and great-grandson, Elijah Hodge.
