Maura Ruth Benner

Maura Benner, 84, of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Indianapolis, IN, passed into eternal rest with Christ on October 16, 2023, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Over her life time, she was a wife, mother, homemaker, active church member, paralegal associate, and avid sailor of small craft.

In her youth, Maura's family resided in many cities. It was in Indianapolis that she raised her children along with her first husband, Tom Craig, and later met her husband of 33 years, Tom Benner. Later, they moved to Florida and many lived many years as Floridians.

Maura will be fondly remembered for her kind and welcoming nature, her enduring love for family and friends, and passion for sailing. An active member of the Smyrna Beach Yacht Club, she fostered deep connections and instructed and inspired many.

Maura is survived by a brother, Phil Garrison (Diane); her children, Diane Milgate (Ron), Pete Craig (Julie), and James Craig; a stepson, Tom Benner; and ten adult grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Craig (Patty) and her beloved husband, Tom Benner.

A memorial will be held in Indianapolis by her children in November. Memorial donations may be sent to Habitat for Humanity or the American Lung Association.
