Matthew Paul Hoy

Matthew Paul Hoy, 76, of Greenfield, Indiana passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. 

Matthew was born April 29, 1946, to William Ross and Shirley Marion Hoy in Niagara Falls, NY.  With his family, Matthew migrated to St. Lucie County, Florida in 1957.

Matthew joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 serving aboard the U.S.S. Forrestal in 1967.  Shortly after his return from service, Matthew began his career at the U.S. Postal Service.  Matthew loved volunteering his time and served as a first responder with the Jensen Beach Volunteer Ambulance Service, and as an Auxiliary Highway Patrolman with the Florida Highway Patrol. 

Matthew also taught Defensive Driving Courses for the St. Lucie County Safety Council.  During this time, he met, fell in love with and married the love of his life, Cheryl Bourland (Hoy) in 1988. 

In 2005, Matthew retired to Indiana where he continued to work, finding employment with Securitas as Indianapolis Airport Security and part-time at Protection Plus.

Matthew will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his jokes, and his stories by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, one brother David Ross Hoy, and two sons, Michael Lee Bourland and David Jonathon Hoy.  He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Bourland-Hoy; three daughters, Danielle (Jimmy) Boutwell of Sheffield, Alabama; Melissa (Mike) Burkey of Raytown, Missouri; and Christina (Brandon) Faulkner of Ozark, Alabama; two sons, Ronnie (Angela) Hoy of Pensacola, Florida; and Brian (Melissa) Bourland of Greenfield, Indiana; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother Andrew Hoy of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, other relatives, and his life-long friend, Richard Pancoast of White City, Florida.

Services will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville, Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250.  Visitation 1-3 pm; Military Honors 3-3:15 pm; Memorial Service 3:15-4:00 pm.
