Mary L. Miller-Rush was born the daughter of R.B. Miller and Ida Mae Hall-Miller on July 17th 1947, in Glendoria Mississippi. She was the seventh child of seventeen children. In 1951 Ida Mae Miller met and awesome man named Sidney Williams who begin to feed and clothe Ida Mae and her children. They later married and he adopted all of her children as his own. Immediately Daddy Sidney and (Mae) as he called Mary developed a special bond.
Mary, went to school in the south, her highest grade level was fifth, but she had an intuitive grasp of peoples moods and attitudes. She approached everyone with the spirit of meekness and love. She had a maxim she used to say “you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar,” and she always had a heart of pure gold. Ida Mae and her children relocated to Indianapolis, IN. Mary a single mother at 17 moved in with Lela and Joe Davis, who were already established there. Sidney and Ida Williams often said that Mary was the second mother of their children with the love and care she provided for them.
November of 1966 she gave birth to her second child William, and he was a gift from God in her time of uncertainty. Now she was the mother of two children. Mary went to work for Rene Restaurant in downtown Indianapolis, where she worked with her sister, Ruthie for two years. She later became an employee of The Mills Pie company on east 23rd, along with her sister Barnell. In September of 1969, she gave birth to her third child Dwayne. Mary was employed 1970 at the Holiday Inn, and with the help of God, she met various people that she considered to be friends, and found favor with management that allowed her to take her children to work with her. During her employment there she was able to display her excellent cooking skills, help her mother care for her younger siblings, and by the grace of God they both endured. In the year of 1971, Mary Met Carl E. Rush Sr. A godsend, while Mary had three children, they fell in love. Carl and Mary gave birth to their first of many children, Carl Jr. in 1972. They had their first home built 1974, where Mary became a stay home mom, and at this time and continued to grow their family. They were then pregnant with Marlin, who would be the fifth child of eight, followed by Rico, Mary, and Aaron. She had already became a surrogate mom to Carl's children, Nolan, Ronald, Mark, Lyndale, Scottie, and Carla.
Mary loved to play cards, go to the casino, cooking, family barbecues, and spending time with all her family. They were always loving and caring people who had an open door to relax, and a large pot to feed all. She especially loved her mama, sisters, and brothers. If you asked her who her closest sister was, she just smiled since she loved them all the same because they all loved her. Though some of them would say that she liked them more! Mary was loved by many, family, friends, and strangers alike.
Mary learned about God and prayer at a young age from her mother. She was birthed into the body of Christ and received the Holy Ghost in 2000, under Pastor Brewer. Mary, affectionately known as (Mother), later sat under her oldest son and Pastor, Bishop James L. Miller Sr. at (N.B.M.R.A) of the Apostolic Faith in Michigan until she departed her earthly life. There she had numerous sons, daughters, and grandchildren in the faith. Mary married the beloved father of her children in October of 2007 and lived lovingly in holy matrimony as Mr. & Mrs. Carl Rush until his earthly departure in 2008.
