Mary N. Miller, 81, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021. She was born to the late Theresa A. and Raymond C. Myers, also of Indianapolis. She was a 1958 graduate of Southport High School, where she played the flute in the band and prepared for a career in secretarial sciences. She was married to Jim C. Miller, who preceded her in death, for 57 years. She began her career at Eli Lilly and Co. and became a full-time mother when her children were born. Mary later returned to work, supporting her family as her husband started his own business. She retired from the IU School of Medicine.
Her children recall her tireless efforts to ensure they had a full and happy childhood. She spent many hours arranging fun activities and enabling her children to bond with elder relatives. She always made sure her kids had hot, healthy meals, even for breakfast, and taught them how to be hardworking and financially responsible. Her selfless nature was particularly evident on her birthday, which she shared with her daughter. Her main concern on this day what that her daughter had a good birthday.
Mary had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She particularly enjoyed funny imitations of pop singers and acting silly with her grandkids. She enjoyed keeping busy, frequently playing a mean game of driveway basketball or riding her bike. Wild horses couldn't keep her away from her television if an IU basketball game was on. She also enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, and singing, and her favorite food group was sweets. Survivors include a son, Kevin Miller, daughter, Lynn (William) Lukins, three grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, December 6, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Indiana Funeral Care's Greenwood Chapel; funeral and graveside services will immediately follow.
Donations may be made in her honor to Central Indiana Council on Aging (CICOA) or Meals on Wheels (Indianapolis).
