Mary Kathryn Newton

August 21, 1932 — October 27, 2021

Mary (Miner) Newton was born in 1932 to Ellen (Potter) Miner and Ray Miner in Cherokee, Iowa. She grew up in Iowa. She met Roger Newton in elementary school. They married on September 8, 1956. Mary passed away on October 27, 2021. Mary is survived by Lisa (Louis) Winternheimer, Lynn (Larry) Bruner, and Traci (Nick) Taylor. Mary was blessed with ten grandchildren – Philip (Kristin) Winternheimer, Ellen (Andrew) Meyers, Sam (Caroline) Winternheimer, David Bruner, R. Cass Bruner, Seth Bruner, Gabe Bruner, Jesse (Emily) Taylor, Clay (Erin) Taylor, and AJ (Elizabeth) Taylor. She enjoyed playing with her great grandchildren – Asher and Luke Winternheimer, Tessa Meyers, Max and Addison Taylor, and Brooks and Wesley Taylor.

Mary and Roger raised their daughters in Evansville, Indiana. They moved to Teaneck, New Jersey for a few years before retiring in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mary’s faith in God was deep and vibrant. She belonged to Zionsville Fellowship and participated in and led numerous Bible study groups. She loved learning the Word.

Mary took piano lessons throughout her childhood and developed a deep love of music. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and knitting. She devoted many years to developing and organizing the library of Neighborhood Academy and coordinating Christmas gifts for Neighborhood Fellowship.

Mary appreciated people and established lifelong friendships. Her family celebrated many Passover and Succoth holidays with next door neighbors and they celebrated many Christmas holidays with the Newton family. She enjoyed creating cards on her computer and sending encouraging notes.

Mary loved raising a family and being a homemaker. Roger’s career involved weekly travel throughout the United States, Europe, and South America, so Mary single-handedly and adeptly managed the household. Mary’s professional career involved numerous executive assistant roles where she employed her excellent organizational and administrative skills.

Mary had a marvelous sense of humor. Her daughters coined the phrase “Maryisms” to describe the funny ways that Mary expressed herself.

Mary significantly impacted her family and friends. She leaves a wonderful legacy of faith and love, which will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Neighborhood Fellowship in Mary’s name would be greatly appreciated. The address is Neighborhood Fellowship, 3102 E. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46201
