Mary E. Prather 95, of Indianapolis, IN, went home to be with the Lord Saturday,
Feb. 27, 2021, of natural causes. She was a resident of Golden Living Center at the
time of her death.
Mary was a lifelong Christian and the daughter of Maggie and Edward Ball. She was born in Merriman, NC on Jan. 16, 1926. She was the youngest of their five children, all of whom preceded her in death: Horace, Robert, Ralph, and John.
Mary graduated from Newport News (VA) High School and attended Business School for two years pursuing a career in business and secretarial skills. At this time, she was married and became an avid homemaker for many years. Mary was a Lifetime Member of Birdseye Chapter #590 Order of the Eastern Star and she achieved membership in the 200 club in her favorite sport of bowling. She was very generous with her time and talents in many church and community organizations.
Mary and her former husband, William E. Prather, Sr. raised three children, one of whom, Vickii L. Werner, preceded her in death. Her grandson, Johnny Prather, also predeceased her. Mary is survived by her son, William E. Prather, Jr. (Marna), Frisco, TX, her daughter, Nancy Prather Stage (Gary), Indianapolis, IN, and grandchildren Bill Prather, Beverly Hills, CA, Barbara Ann Werner (Robert Fosnot), Elgin IN, and Alexander Prather-Stage, Indianapolis, IN. She is also survived by her great -grandchildren, Robert Jr., Shelby and Ross Fosnot, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, March 8, 2021, from 12:30 to 1:15 PM at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250. A graveside committal service will follow at 2:00 PM at Washington Park North Cemetery, 2702 Kessler Boulevard West Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Gleaner’s Food Bank of Indiana, 3737 Waldemere Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46241 or a charity of one’s choice.
