Martin "Marty" Earl Thompson

Martin “Marty” Earl Thompson, 80, passed away June 29, 2024, at Harrison Terrace in Indianapolis, IN. He was born January 10, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN, to Ralph Thompson and Ferne (Litzman) Thompson. After completing his education, he worked for much of his life in trade work as a plumber and steam fitter and enjoyed helping others. Marty later met and married his wife, Evelyn Irene (Hensley) Thompson on July 8, 1967. Together they spent almost 57 years by each other’s sides, raising their family and watching their children grow. 

Marty was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many, who had many joys in life. He was a devoted member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church and very close to his faith. Marty has a kind heart and had multiple ministries he served after his retirement. He was a Deacon at the church for several years, he also helped with the bus ministry, and loved to sing in the choir. He also enjoyed visiting the Wheeler Mission and the guests at Regency nursing home and would often stop by to pray or bring support to others. 

Marty is survived by his wife, Evelyn Thompson; son, Perry (Tracy Young) Thompson; brother, Ralph (Linda) Thompson; granddaughter, Kelsei Thompson; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Jasper. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ferne Thompson; his son, Michael Thompson; and his brother, Edward Thompson. 

Friends and family are welcome to gather for a visitation for Marty from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 10701 E 56th St, Indianapolis, IN 46235. Funeral services to follow visitation at 12:00pm at the church. Marty will be laid to rest at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
