Marlene Hartman passed away at her home in Indianapolis on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. She was 88 years old. Marlene was born on March 9, 1931 in New York City to Erich and Herta Keske, who had immigrated to the U.S. from Germany. She was raised in America for her first eight years and then in Germany for the next eight. She returned to America at age 16 to retain her American citizenship. She completed secretarial school and held a variety of jobs in banks and law offices. Her last career was as a china consultant at Macy’s in Cincinnati where she worked until the age of 80, offering superior service and a ready smile to her customers. Many would find their way to her desk just to talk and be uplifted.
Marlene was blessed with a close family that still spans 4 generations. Marlene’s husband, Raymond William Hartman, died more than 20 years ago. They had three sons, Mark (Laurie) Hartman, Glenn (Bernadette) Hartman, and Neil (Lauren) Hartman. She was proud of her boys and their accomplishments. She also loved her nine grandchildren, David (Carrie) Hartman, Marian (David) Fox, Lisa (Joseph) Januszkiewicz, Catherine Hartman, Steve (Chelsea) Hartman, Michael (Kylie) Hartman, Carolyn Hartman, Talia Hartman, and Owen Hartman. In addition, she was blessed with four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two brothers, Erich and Gerhard, who still live in Germany.
Marlene loved a good party. She was a terrific hostess. Her husband always said she could “light up a room.” Marlene survived many difficulties in her life but she always remained optimistic. Marlene trusted in her Lord Jesus and would let anyone know that when she needed help, she could call on him and feel His assistance.
