Marlene Banton departed this life on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the age of sixty-one years old while battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was a compassionate woman, loving mother, and loyal friend. Her faith in God and relationship with him gave her the strength and the ability to overcome life’s challenges.
Marlene and her family emigrated to the United States from Kingston, Jamaica. They lived in Brooklyn, New York before settling in Indianapolis, Indiana. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering in the community, and cherished friendships from work and from church. She is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis and was a long-time employee at Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana.
Marlene was preceded in death by her twin siblings Michael and Michele. She is survived by her parents Luna and Oswald (Rose); daughters, Jodi and Janeel and their father, Ian; grandson, Kalel; brothers, Hugh (Jacqueline), Mark (Linda), Paul, and Oswald Jr., nieces and nephews: Tara (Damon), Hillary, Gerwyn (John) and Sean.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any of the following: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; Community Health Network Foundation (Cancer Care or Oncology Patient Assistance); Be The Match Foundation; or Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the funeral service will be limited to only 50 people inside the funeral home.
