Mark Jay Goar, Sr., a dedicated family man and esteemed member of his community, passed away unexpectedly on March 17, 2025, in Indianapolis, IN. Born on January 15, 1956, in Indianapolis, Mark's life was defined by his unwavering commitment to service, both in his personal and professional endeavors.

Mark retired from all civilian work in 2005, culminating a diverse career that showcased his talents and passions. He was celebrated as a great auto mechanic and had dreams of becoming a private investigator, having taken courses in criminal law. Mark also served as a corrections officer with the Marion County Sheriff's Department, demonstrating his dedication to public safety and justice.

An honorable veteran, Mark proudly served in the Air Force and the Air Force Reserves from 1983 until his retirement in 2014, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. His service took him around the globe, allowing him to experience the rich cultures of Guam, Italy, Spain, Kuwait, Hawaii, Iceland, the UAE, Turkey, and Bahrain. Mark was particularly noted for his role as an A-10 Crew Chief at Grissom Air Force Base, where he garnered the respect and admiration of his peers.

Mark’s educational journey began at John Marshall High School, where he graduated in 1974. He furthered his education at the Baptist Bible Fellowship in Springfield, MO, where he graduated and was ordained as a minister—a testament to his deep faith and commitment to helping others.

In his free time, Mark cherished being outdoors, indulging in hobbies such as gardening, exploring American history, camping, and embarking on motorcycle trips to Tennessee. These interests reflected his adventurous spirit and love for nature.

Mark is survived by his beloved mother, Betty June Goar; his brothers, Cary Eugene Goar and Stuart Kevin Goar, along with their children; and his brother-in-law, Dave Stout, who brought joy to the family with his two children. He leaves behind his son, Mark "Jay" Goar, along with his grandchildren Elijah S. Goar, Brynley Goar, and Brayden Goar; his daughter, Rachel Lynn Goar; and his son, Jeremy Wayne Goar, and his wife, Michelle, along with children Mason, Madalyn, Easton, and Brysen. Additionally, Mark's family includes nine great-nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Mark was predeceased by his father, Richard Lee Goar, and his sister, Connie Lee Stout, both of whom he remembered fondly throughout his life.

Join us in celebrating Mark's life with a memorial service on March 31, 2025, at Faithway Baptist Church in Greenfield. A public viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., during which friends and family can share their memories and pay their respects. The memorial service will commence at 10:30 a.m., providing an opportunity for all to come together in honor of Mark's remarkable journey.
Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Marion National Cemetery at 1:00 PM, during which Mark will receive military honors reflecting his service and commitment to his country.

Mark Jay Goar, Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the profound impact he had on his family and friends. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
