Marilyn Kay Schmitz

Marilyn "Kay" (Foster) Schmitz, 77 of Pendleton, passed away in her home of 45 years on October 26, 2022.

Marilyn is survived by her children Erick Schmitz, Dawn (Schmitz) Speedy, grandchildren Cameron Schmitz, Kristen Schmitz-Bosse (Jerome), Caspian Schmitz (Devin), Brady Eversole, Austin Speedy (Shayna) with great grandchildren Benjamin Speedy and Soren Speedy. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Terry Schmitz, parents Jesse Foster and Alma (Wells) Foster, and brother Jerry Foster.

Marilyn, known to everyone as Kay, was born on July 5th, 1945, in Anderson and grew up in Pendleton, graduating Pendleton High School in 1963. After graduating high school Kay went on to attend Indiana Business College and graduated in 1965. Kay was a secretary for Fred's Frozen Foods for many years, worked as a library assistant at the Pendleton Community Public Library and before retiring worked for Maple Ridge Elementary School as an Instructional Assistant for 13 years.

Kay spent her retirement days with her friends and family. She loved meeting her friends weekly for lunch or dinner. She had a kind and giving heart, generous to a fault. She joined the local chapter Psi Phi of the civic organization Kappa Delta Phi local in October 2006. She loved helping others and this was the perfect fit for her. The sorority holds annual fundraising events such as the Chicken and Noodle dinner that occurs in August and Purse Bingo occurring in May. Kay has made thousands of noodles over the years. These events allow them to raise funds to make cheer plates for shut ins, help local people in need as well as fund the Indy Honor Flight. 

Kay will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A graveside service will be held at Grove Lawn Cemetery located in Pendleton, IN, date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in Kay's honor may be made to the civic organization Kappa Delta Phi local chapter Psi Phi in care of Betty Weist, President, PO Box 41 Markleville, In 46056.
