Marie Ziegler

Marie I. Ziegler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on February 18, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Marie was the cherished daughter of Harry W. Mahoney and Martha F. Mahoney (Bany). She grew up in a large Catholic family, surrounded by the love of her four sisters, Janet Gieseking, Patricia Huebner, Betty Schmitt, and Martha Ann Gunter, who were her lifelong confidantes and companions.

After graduating from Sacred Heart Central High School in 1962, Marie married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Ziegler, with whom she shared a deep and loving partnership. Throughout her life, she held various clerical positions in the logistics industry and retired from Yellow Freight in June, 2006.

Marie found joy in her hobbies of cooking, quilting, and knitting. The light of her life, however, was her four grandchildren: Matthew, Angela, Nicole, and Sarah Ziegler. She doted on them endlessly, providing love, spoiling them with treats, and offering wisdom that only a grandmother could impart.

Marie leaves behind her loving husband, Lawrence, and their two children, Tamara Ziegler and Paul(Susan) Ziegler; grandchildren, Matthew, Angela, Nicole, and Sarah Ziegler; and her four sisters. Her warmth and compassionate spirit touched everyone she encountered, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Martha Mahoney.

A memorial gathering will take place on March 15, 2025, at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm.
