Margaret L. Lee passed away on Thursday, October 24 in New Palestine, IN at the age of 95 years young.
She was born in Indianapolis on March 8, 1924 to the late Melville and Ethel Alley Farrington/Welton. Margaret graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1942. For more than a decade, she worked at Eli Lilly. Margaret fondly remembered her time there and would recount stories of her interactions with the company’s founder, Eli Lilly. She mastered the use of shorthand and sang in the Lilly choir.
Margaret was a homemaker raising her children in Indianapolis. She was musically inclined and enjoyed playing the electric organ and singing hymns. Also, she was adept at making beautiful artificial flowers out of wood fibers that she would gift to friends and family. Her most requested food dishes, included meatloaf, peanut butter fudge, and pecan pie. Margaret had a sweet tooth.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Margaret volunteered her time with numerous organizations in her local community. She loved babies and was a caregiver for many of her elderly neighbors. Margaret was a devoted letter writer and penned many notes to her family and friends. She even had a computer where she typed many letters, and never forgot a birthday card.
When Indiana winters became too brutal, she traveled to Florida and enjoyed her time in a retirement community where she played cards and enjoyed fresh squeezed orange juice. Her family visited her every season.
For most of her life, Margaret was a widow until she met Raymond Lee in Florida. He convinced her to live in Florida full-time. They were wed on May 20, 2000 and had five happy years of marriage together until he passed away in 2005.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Jody Timmer, Aurora, IL and Donna (Scot) Gish, New Palestine, IN; grandchildren Troy Timmer, Houston, TX and Megan (Drew) Carrico, Indianapolis, IN; and a great-grandchild on the way.
Her smile, kind heart, and thoughtful spirit will be missed by those that she impacted over the years.
