Marcella M. McArthur, RN, loving wife and mother of five went home to Our Lord on April 28, 2020 at the age of 94. Marcie was born June 27, 1925 in River Rouge, Michigan to Joseph and Maude Milligan. She graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge, MI in 1943 and received her RN degree from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Dearborn, Michigan in 1946. She practiced nursing intermittently over 50 years, retiring at the age of 72. On February 18, 1950 she married Frank McArthur and together they raised four daughters and one son, Lynn (Lowen) Stewart of Noblesville IN, Kathy (Jim) Flora of Bradenton, FL, Peg Greene of Holland, MI, Jill (Joe Clark) of Pasadena CA, and Jay (Stacy) of Freeland, WA.
Throughout her life Marcie was a devout Catholic, most recently a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Carmel, IN. She lived in eight states over the course of her life, gathering close relationships in every location: maintaining contact throughout her life through correspondence and regular phone calls. Her friends knew her as a great conversationalist, a fashionable and resilient woman and loyal friend. Forever a proud nurse, Marcie touched others with her compassionate caregiving for those she loved.
Marcie was deeply committed to her ever-expanding family and she loved entertaining them in style especially during the holiday seasons, creating memories for all that will last a lifetime.
Marcie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Maude Milligan, her husband of 52 years, Frank who passed away in 2004, and siblings Ray, Molly (Lord), Sally (Tierney) and Nancy (Pelissier). She is survived by all four of her daughters and one son, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, sister Eileen (Tim) Offerman, and brother-in-law, Mike Tierney, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Marcie’s dedication to the nursing profession, donations can be made to the Community Health Network Foundation, which directly benefits patients and nursing units.
