Louis Robert Baldini passed away peacefully on December 18, 2019 after battling Parkinson’s Disease for the last 17 years. His parents – Rose (Morreale) and Louis Baldini – preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Kathy Avers, and his three children – Maria Baldini-Potermin, Michael Baldini, and Daniel Baldini – along with 6 Grandchildren.
Louis was born in Chicago, IL on March 11, 1942 and grew up and lived there and in Mt. Prospect, IL until moving to Carmel, IN in 1980. He graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1963. Louis was a talented clarinet player and loved all types of music, especially Jazz. Music later played a role in his treatments for Parkinson’s with a calming effect on the brain not only when he was listening to music but also when playing the clarinet. Louis was drafted into the US Army in 1966 where he served in the Military Police, earning the Sharpshooting Badge, Marksman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal while performing his duties guarding Nike missile sites. After military service, Louis started a family while furthering his career as a manager for Dominick’s Finer Foods and National T grocery stores in Chicago and Indianapolis. Lou helped coach baseball and basketball with the CYO for his children and took part in several Boy Scout activities throughout his sons’ younger years. Lou changed careers and started in the Insurance and Securities business becoming a successful agent selling many types of insurance and investment funds. He continued with this until suffering a nerve disease in his leg and optic nerves, ultimately causing him to become legally blind in less than a week. Despite his loss of vision, Lou continued to work at several jobs until the Parkinson’s Disease advanced to the point where he could no longer work or take care of himself and needed to move to an assisted living/nursing home facility.
Louis always worked hard to accomplish everything he could in life. He was always there to lend a helping hand, advice to calm us down when we got worked up over what really were little things in life, and encouragement to all he knew. Everyone knew Louis and spoke highly of him. He was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather (Papa Louie as the grandkids affectionately called him), role model, and an inspiration to many. Lou’s passing is a life transition for all who knew and loved him. His battle with Parkinson’s denied him many opportunities in life but he made the best of what was available to him and was an example to all. Louis will be missed by all but is finally resting peacefully.
Louis Robert Baldini will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery 9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240 on January 4, 2020 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation (Parkinson.org) or the Disabled American Veterans (Dav.org).
