Louis Robert Lowe Jr.

Louis Robert “Bob” Lowe, Jr., a vibrant, joyful energy on this earth, ascended into Heaven on December 1, 2024. He was 87 years of age surrounded by his wife and daughters. 

His parents, Madelyn and Louis Lowe, Sr. were among the first to welcome him home.

He leaves behind his high school sweetheart, best friend and true partner for life, Nancy Carolyn (Brown) Lowe. On August 13, 2024, they celebrated their 64 wedding anniversary. They have three daughters, Shannon Lowe Owens (Scott), Stephanie Lowe Burry (Mark) and Stacey Lowe Almgren (Jordy) and 5 grandchildren: Justin Smith, Caroline and Ellie Sagebiel, Madelyn and Clay Almgren. 

Bob was born in Indianapolis, IN on May 30, 1937 to Madelyn and Louis Lowe, Sr. In 1955, he graduated from Broad Ripple High School and made his way to Purdue University as a proud and devoted member of Phi Delta Theta. He graduated from Purdue with a Civil Engineering degree in 1959 and shortly thereafter married Nancy Carolyn Brown in the Chapel of Second Presbyterian Church in 1960. He worked as a professional Engineer beginning 1964 and in 1967, he received his law degree in Indianapolis and was admitted into the Indiana Bar. As a young lawyer, he joined his father’s practice before starting off on his own as the co-founder of Lowe, Gray, Steele and Hoffman and later, Lowe, Gray, Steele and Darko. He was designated as a distinguished attorney fellow by the Indianapolis Bar Foundation for over 50 years of service and listed in the 2013-14 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. 

His service in civic, charitable and professional circles was extensive. Bob has been a member of the American, Indiana and Indianapolis Bar Associations; Indianapolis Economic Development Corporation (past director); Hanover College (trustee); Indianapolis Branch of the English Speaking Union (past secretary); Indianapolis Bar Foundation (fellow); Second Presbyterian Church (elder, past president of Board of Endowment and past president of board of Centerpoint Counseling); The Columbia Club Foundation (past board member and past president); The Columbia Club; Meridian Hills Country Club (membership committee member); National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; Eiteljorg Museum (past board member); Indianapolis Purdue Association (past president); The Contemporary Club (past president); Gyro Club (past president),; Economic Club of Indiana; Indiana Council on World Affairs, Inc.; Indianapolis Committee on Foreign Relations. He has been a lifelong and devoted member of Second Presbyterian Church, serving as Deacon and Elder. He was a proud Eagle Scout and supported the efforts of the Boy Scouts of America.

He loved people! He appreciated a genuine smile, a firm handshake, any kind of joke, good music that connected him back to his father’s orchestra days (Louis Lowe) and anyone that could match his efforts with a kazoo. He was known for his whimsical whistle, loud holiday hats (that sometimes terrified young children) and explosive singing voice. He had a competitive spirit that made him relentless on the tennis court and the golf course. He gave to his daughters not only his love of travel and curiosity about the world as he and his wife travelled the globe, but their love of skiing and the mountains always finding their way back to their second home in Snowmass, CO. 

While he called Indianapolis home, he came from a long line of pioneers who were the first to settle in Kingston, Indiana, near Greensburg, where he will be laid to rest.
