Libbe Hoogeveen passed away on June 25th at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 74. He was born August 25, 1945 in Witmarsum, Netherlands and immigrated to America with his family when he was five years old. He was extremely proud of his Frisian heritage and loved to tell stories about his time spent there. Libbe was a graduate of Pike High School and was drafted into the war in 1964. He served in the Army for three years, earning the National Defense Service Medal and later served in the National Guard. Libbe retired from Lebanon Community School Corporation. He was a proud member of the Lebanon community and enjoyed researching the genealogy of families, so that they could also be proud of where they came from.
Libbe is survived by his three children: Mark Hoogeveen, Michelle (David) Lucas, and Minka (Robert) Barnard. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kayla Hoogeveen, Mack Smith, Jackson Lucas, and Maverick Hoogeveen; his sisters Tina Wines, Alice Wines, and Rena Bush; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that were all important to him.
The family will be celebrating Libbe’s life at a private event. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his honor to the Military Family Relief Fund or the Easter seals Crossroads of Indianapolis.
