Lewis James ‘Jim’ Meyers, 74, died February 26, 2023 at home due to natural causes. He was born February 28, 1948, to Lewis T. and Doris M. (Humphreys) Meyers in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Arlington High School in Indianapolis, where he played football. He went on to college at Indiana University, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He was on the fraternity’s team that rode in the Little 500 Bicycle race. College was interrupted by being drafted into the Army. After returning from Germany, he completed his education at Heron Art Institute.
Jim was a dedicated environmentalist, an excellent woodworker and a carpenter, a skilled sculptor, and most of all, a passionate artist in all media of paint. His love of nature took him to many parks, especially parks where he could swim. He read profusely which continued to expand and fill his intelligent mind.
He loved animals and his compassion for them was evident in the strays that could find food and water left out for them, even the occasional opossum.
Jim is survived by his sister, Cynthia “Cindy” Meyers Morris, a nephew, Brent Morris, and a niece, Deana Lucas, all of Greenfield, three great nieces, Rylee, Arielle, and Olive, as well as many Iowa cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indiana Wildlife Federation.
A remembrance celebration will be held Thursday, March 16th, from Noon to 2 p.m., at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W Moore Chapel.
Please join us to recall time spent with Jim, view some of his beautiful art and enjoy some light refreshments.
