Leon Martin, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away March 8, 2024. He was born January 8, 1939 in Birmingham Alabama, he and his family moved to Indianapolis when he was 8 years of age. Leon attended IPS and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. Leon met the love of his life in high school, Patricia Maxey, and of course he used his charming words to win her over. Leon and Pat were happily married on July 25, 1960 and had 2 beautiful daughters, Kim and Kasey.....his words of course.
Our "daddy" was a gentle soul with a warm laugh that made you laugh even though you didn't know why he was laughing. He barely made it to the punchline of a joke because he was laughing so hard at the joke as he was telling it. He was a hardworking man. He worked for Link Belt (FMC) for 40 years. Daddy and Uncle Dell opened up a restaurant called the "Shrimp Hut." Through spiritual conversations initiated by a couple of employees working for him, he started learning about the truth from "BT and Louise". Every time dad remembered those days he would laugh and smile. Saturday nights was live music and fish.
If you met Pop - he was an easy man to love. He was all about expressing the need for JOY in our lives. He dedicated his life on July 7,1979 through water baptism as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and encouraged many others with kind words and warm hugs while advocating doing things theocratically. We look forward to hearing his laugh again.
