Leon Kay Essig Sr., 85, of Arcadia passed away on Wednesday March 24,2021 surrounded by his family. Leon was born on August 10, 1935 to Garland F. Essig and Thelma M. (Carson) Essig. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1953. Leon worked 29 ½ years at Dana Corp. in Tipton serving 26 years as President of the Steelworkers Local Union 2754. When a plant closing occurred in 1982 he became a full time farmer working over 400 acres. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He had coached pee wee league and little league for his son and he was the assistant coach for his daughter’s softball teams. He enjoyed bowling, camping, cards, and sports. He was an avid Cubs fan. Leon married Linda (McGinnis) Essig on February 10, 1966, she survives. He is survived by Brother Allen Essig of Indianapolis. Sister Marietta Love of Virginia. Son Leon (Melissa) Essig Jr. of Indianapolis. Daughters Cynthia Essig of Noblesville, Lynetta Essig of Arcadia, Leronda (Scott) Curry of Noblesville, and Linda (Ryan) Band of Arcadia. Grandsons Alex (Jessi) Essig, David Campbell, and Russell Band. Granddaughters Brandi Oddo, Brieanna (Jake) Cook, Elizabeth Essig, and Elaina Essig. Great Grandsons Cameron Oddo, Landon Oddo, Dayton Cook, Davian Cook, and Wrigley Cook. Great Granddaughter Raylynn Essig. And Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leon was proceeded in death by his mother, father, Brother Don Essig, Daughter Janet, and Granddaughter Ashely Essig. Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
