Leo James Reed of Greenfield, IN died May 26, 2022. Born in Chicago, IL on March 9, 1932 and raised around Central Indiana, he was the only child of Leo and Carrie Reed. He was so perfect and loved, he needed no siblings. Growing up, Leo enjoyed being doted on by the women in his life, his Aunt Addie and his eventual bonus mother, Eva (aka Little Mother).
After returning from serving in the Korean War on a naval ship, he attended a dance looking for the prettiest girl. He married her 3 months later and he and Joanne enjoyed 64 years of happiness and love.
Leo’s greatest joys included his family, reading, telling stories, and orderliness. He loved with deep intention and made anyone he spoke to feel important. He showed up for his family’s important and unimportant events. He always wanted to know about us. He took the time it takes to invest and build into our lives and never rushed it, because he knew that love doesn't rush. Each of his 3 children believed themselves to be “dad’s favorite,” and to be certain, each of them were indeed. He was wise and steady, earning the self-appointed title “The Sage of Oak Hill.”
He leaves behind his daughters, Kathy (Randy) Roller and Sally Fredell, both of Greenfield; son, Leo A. Reed of Lafayette; 6 adoring grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and a whole slew of nieces, nephews, friends of all ages, and a far reaching legacy of love. He will be profoundly missed.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
