Lawrence Edward Gooden was born on March 14th, 1929 in Renfro, Alabama (Talladega County) to George and Mamie Fain Gooden. Lawrence married the late Marguerite Gooden November 2nd, 1957. To this union, two daughters were born. Lawrence was the last of 12 children and he was 91 years young. The angels called him home on Friday, January 1st, 2021 in Indianapolis, IN in his home and was surrounded by loved ones.
Lawrence served in the United States Army from April 5th, 1949 to April 4th, 1953 and he served in the Korean War. After the military, Lawrence moved to Gary Indiana and obtained a job at Youngstown Steel Mill/LTV Steel where he worked for over 30 years. He retired in 1988.
Lawrence leaves his cherished memories of his life to: two loving daughters, Margie Morales Indianapolis, IN and Deborah Kirklen Virginia Beach, VA; nine grandchildren, Kamilah Griffin Westfield, IN, Delrico Jr. and Dedric Griffin, Maurche' and Maurquis Willingham Indianapolis, IN; Dheshema (Jovan) Dailey, Darrrell Jr. and Desiree Kirklen, and India (Michael) Sneeringer Virginia Beach, VA; thirteen great grandchildren, Gianni, Chynna, Vashaun, Jovan Jr, and Jaylin Dailey, Amara Purchase, Kadeen Green, Nevaeh, Mikeal and Logan Sneeringer, and Damir Brown Virginia Beach VA; Doloryn and Delrico Griffin III Indianapolis, IN; and two great-great grandchildren Lei'Lani Vatti and Alyanna Beame, Virginia Beach, VA.
Lawrence has a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
