LaRue W. Fuqua

February 16, 1935 — July 21, 2020

LaRue W. Fuqua passed away on July 21, 2020. She was born Daisy LaRue White to Archie and Ruby (Lemay) White in Florence, Alabama on February 16, 1935.
In 1950, she moved to Indianapolis and dropped her first name. She met her first husband Veachel Earl Isenberg when they worked together at White Castle. They married in 1953 and welcomed four children, Vicki, Rebecca, Michael (died in infancy) and Lisa. Veachel passed away in 1966, leaving LaRue to care for their three daughters. LaRue outlived two more husbands. She met her second husband, Jack Cahen, on a blind date in 1978; he passed in 1996. She met her third husband, Joseph Buren Fuqua, through a local singles ad in 2000. They purchased a home in Ingalls, Indiana where mom grew roses and blackberries and Joe built and sold furniture. They were active members of Fall Creek Christian Church in Pendleton, IN. They enjoyed several happy years together before illness took Joe’s life in 2012.
Over the years LaRue worked a variety of jobs to make ends meet. She was a voracious reader of mystery novels and a skilled seamstress who made beautiful clothes for her daughters and their Barbie dolls. She was always on the lookout for a new cake recipe to take to a social event, especially one that involved music and dancing. She made every Christmas special despite meager circumstances. Her adventurous spirit resulted in moving to a new house almost annually yet her organization skills quickly turned those houses into cozy homes. She loved animals, often feeding ducks and squirrels from her patio, but she treasured her Siamese cats Suki, Sheba, and Lucy.
LaRue is survived by her sister Sherry (David) Amador, daughters Vicki (Jim) Isenberg, Rebecca Callahan and Lisa (Rich) Lobdell, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grand-children and her beloved cousin Betty Jean.
Cremation services provided by Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In memory of LaRue, donations may be sent to Heart to Heart Hospice, 2611 Waterfront Parkway E. Drive, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46214.
