Kevin Lee Smith, age 65, succumbed to COPD while sleeping, in the early morning hours on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. He died peacefully at the Indianapolis, Indiana home he shared with his sister, Donna and brother-in-law, Marc.
Born to the late Brooksie and Betty Smith, Kevin often joked that he was a firecracker, having been born on July the fourth in 1959. Kevin attended Arsenal Technical High School, graduating with the class of 1977, and lived most of his life on the east side of Indianapolis. Much of his working life was spent manning the parts counter for various auto dealerships. In the 1980's, Kevin relocated to Sarasota, Florida where he worked for a Chevrolet dealership. He returned to Indianapolis in 1990.
Kevin never married but he shared a close relationship with his eight siblings and loved being the funny uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Kevin enjoyed motorsports, old cars, and motorcycles. His love of laughter and camaraderie will be missed by his family and many lifelong friends.
In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his sister, Roberta Gillespie and brother, David Smith.
He is survived by sisters, Adelia Butrum, Pam Marion (Max), Donna Gunyon (Marc), and Anita Clontz (Darrel); brothers, Jimmy Reed (Dianne), and Larry Smith; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Kevin's life is being planned to coincide with his 66th birthday on July 4, 2025.
