Keith Eric Matters, 67, passed away on January 30, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN after battling ALS.
Keith was born on August 26, 1955, in Indianapolis, IN, to James L. Matters and Barbara G. Matters.
He graduated from Warren Central High School in 1974.
He started his career in sales for Square D and went on to work for Unipac, GE, All Phase Electric, Economy Plumbing and Supply, and ADT.
He enjoyed all types of music, from opera to rap and everything in between - often at volumes that could be heard a couple of counties away. He liked classic cars and camping.
Keith is best known for his passion and dedication to Footlite Musicals. He first worked with Footlite on the show ‘Sugar’ in 1975. He became president of Footlite in 1981 and served in that capacity off and on for years, serving on the board or as VP in between terms as President. He gave a total of 47 1⁄2 years of service to Footlite. It is sometimes said that he built Footlite (literally and figuratively) and Jan Rost paid for it! He taught many, many people the arts of stagecraft and welcomed everyone into the “Footlite Family” over the years. He was in the building so much that people thought he had never left.
He worked with the Indiana Community Theater Association for many years, serving terms as president, treasurer, stage manager, and technical judge for many festivals. He was inducted into The Players Club in 1994 and became an Honorary Lifetime Member shortly after.
Above all, he loved his family and was proud of all their accomplishments.
He was a dedicated father and husband.Keith is survived by his wife of 39 1/2 years, Maria Matters, sons Eric J. Matters, Stephen D. Matters (Amy), grandson Lincoln, and one on the way.
Keith is preceded in death by his father, James L. Matters, mother, Barbara G. Matters, sisters Catherine Perdue and Karen Breedlove, and stepmother Josephine "Dolly" Matters.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Keith's name to Footlite Musicals, Inc.
