In Loving Memory of Kathy Sue Knafel

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Kathy Sue Knafel, who was born on February 2, 1974, in North Webster, Indiana, and passed away on April 1, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathy is survived by her parents, Grace and Terry Knafel, and her siblings, Kayle Snell, Karla Jackson, Kandace Gilliard, Kevin Knafel, Kristin McCourt, Kelly Knafel, and Katie Knafel. She shared a life with her partner, Paul Lane, and was a proud mother to Alyssa Jacobs, Abbie Betts, Ashton Betts, and Ava Lane, and grandmother to Lincoln Jacobs and Theo Jacobs.

An avid reader, Kathy could often be found curled up with a novel, with her beloved dogs, Archie and Apollo, resting by her side. She was also a talented piano player, finding joy in music throughout her life—particularly when 90’s rap was playing. Traveling was a passion she shared with Paul, always embracing new experiences and making cherished memories along the way. However, above all, Kathy’s greatest joy came from the time she spent with her children.

Kathy had a natural talent for numbers and put her skills to great use as a dedicated treasurer for the American Legion Auxiliary. Her coworkers were like a second family to her, and she cherished the friendships she built through her work. She also had a passion for cooking and loved nothing more than sharing a good meal with those she loved—especially if pizza was on the menu.

Kathy was a fiercely loyal friend. She was always there with a listening ear, a kind word, or a well-timed joke to bring a smile to someone's face. Her kindness, resilience, and deep love for God and those around her will forever be remembered.
