Kathryn Thickman, Kat to her friends and family, age 44, died in her home in Indianapolis on July 4, 2023. She graduated from Glastonbury High School in Connecticut in 1996. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire and a Master’s degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Kat led an active life full of adventure.
As a child Kat started gymnastics at the Glastonbury Rec program. She quickly rose to being one of the best gymnasts in the state, earning her the nickname The Beam Queen. In 1993-1994 Kat was on the Junior Olympic team and travelled internationally to compete on the US team. After an injury in 1995, she recovered and was a member of the University of New Hampshire college gymnastics team. In honor of these achievements, Kat was one of the torch bearers for the 2002 Olympics when the Olympic flame passed through Hartford, CT.
Kat, always a compassionate person, was drawn to health care to help people who are suffering. She chose to become a Physician’s Assistant as it allowed her to have more direct patient contact. Her patients appreciated the care and compassion she brought to her job, making her a popular caregiver. She practiced in multiple states across many specialties and in all of them she always gave the highest quality of care.
Kat was a world traveler. She visited all 50 states, Europe, and Central and South America. In all her travels, she would look for adventures, and find them. Whether it was driving in a blizzard in Iceland, scuba diving in Belize, or kayaking in Alaska, she always took on a challenge with a smile. As an avid Disney fan, she could often be found celebrating at one of the Disney resorts. Her family and friends will miss traveling with her.
Kat is survived by her siblings, Kristin Bollerman, Karen Thickman, and Kenneth Thickman, and her parents, Susan, and Stuart Thickman. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food bank in Kat’s honor. A Celebration of Life will be held in Connecticut in September.
