Karen Jean (Byers) Thompson was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend. She passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on September 8, 2023 at the age of 65.
Karen was born to Gene L. Byers and Wilma A. (Goss) Wilson on February 22, 1958 in Bloomington, Indiana. She had a long career as a legal secretary, working for the last nearly 20 years at Frost Brown Todd in Indianapolis.
Karen is survived by her husband, Phil Thompson; her son, Kenneth “K.C.” Helton (Karen Kirchman); her step-daughters, Amanda Thompson Ferguson and Amber Lightle (DJ); her sister Melinda Fiscus (Terry); and her grandchildren: Zoe Ferguson and Savannah, Arabella, Aileana, and Tynlee Lightle.
Her family and friends remember her as a vibrant and fun-loving person with a steadfast devotion to her dogs. She loved to travel and spend time at the beach. She enjoyed playing games, going to concerts, shopping, and taking every opportunity to live a full life.
The visitation is scheduled on Friday, September 15 from 1:00-3:00 PM with a service to follow at 3:00 PM at Indiana Funeral Care (8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Karen’s life.
Flowers and condolences can be sent to Indiana Funeral Care. Any charitable donations in her memory can be given to the Indianapolis Humane Society.
