Karen Annette Sewell

Karen Annette (Johnson) Sewell, 59, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away April 6, 2025 at Community Hospital South.

She was born on May 25, 1965 in Indianapolis, Indiana to David and Ann (Gross) Johnson.

Karen is survived by her husband, Rick Sewell; son, Patrick Korando (Becca); step sons, Michael Sewell, Dalton Sewell; mother, Ann Johnson; sisters, Cathy Spencer (Brian), Janet Haun (Justin); grandchildren, Addelyn Grace, Ryder, Matthew, Madison, Faith Ann; and her beloved dog, Jake.

She is preceded in death by her father, David J. Johnson and her beloved dog, Murphy.

Karen worked in the commercial insurance industry for over 38 years holding many different titles in her journey. She most recently worked for PLM Insurance over the last 17 years and loved her job. Karen loved animals, and was an advocate for all, but she especially loved elephants. She was able to spend a few days at an elephant retreat in Southern Indiana, bathing them, prepping and feeding them, and was even able to paint the toenails of an elephant named Cindy.

Karen loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren who affectionately called her Nanny. Karen was a Godly woman, she was a prayer warrior not only for her family, grandchildren and friends but others who were in need of prayer. Karen knew where she was going and waited for the day her dad and Murphy picked her up in a 57 Chevy and take her home to Heaven with them.

Graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery to be determined.
