February 9, 1932 — September 9, 2022

Indianapolis

Julia E. Eaton Taylor, 90, Indianapolis, died peacefully surrounded by family at 8:30 am, Friday, September 9, 2022, at her home.

She was born February 9, 1932, in Howard County Indiana, to Thurston D. and Shirley (Colescott) Peck. On July 13th, 1952, Julia married Charles F. Eaton, who preceded her in death November 19, 2001. On December 11th, 2004, She married Thomas Taylor Jr., who preceded her in death on January 4, 2007.

She was a homemaker, caretaker, an avid gardener, and always had a smile on her face and a joke or a kind word to say, or an offer to help whomever she was with. She played piano, accordion, keyboard, and clarinet. She was a 1950 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended Indiana University Purdue University Kokomo. She and Charles were high school sweethearts, played in band together all through high school, married after high school, lived mostly in Kokomo until 1965, and then moved to southern Indiana near Bedford in 1966 after purchasing a 180-acre parcel of mostly wooded land. While there they raised their 4 sons: David M. Eaton, Mark O. Eaton, Scott W. Eaton, and Patrick J. Eaton. She raised a large garden, canned vegetables, drove the tractor in the hay field, cooked meals for the hay hands, milked the family cow, churned their own butter, baked delicious yeast rolls and cinnamon rolls, went cave exploring with the family, rode motorcycles with the family, and even at the age of 64, rode the windsurfer on Eagle Creek lake after Patrick showed her how to ride it.  She and Charles lived on their property until 1988, when they moved to a retirement community near Lake Wales, Fl. While there, she and Charles, and then later, she and Thomas (Tom) fished while living in Florida. She and Charles formed a dance band, the Privateers, in 1956 that played at venues in Kokomo, and then in 1994 in Florida started their own 2-piece band, Opus One, playing at their residence recreation hall and other Lake Wales’s venues. She cared for Charles' mother, Ruth J. Eaton, after she suffered a stroke, until she passed in 1979. Then cared for Charles after he suffered a disabling heart attack in 1981 until he passed in 2001, and then took care of Tom when needed until he passed. She had a brief, but very loving marriage with Tom for the short time they were together, and she had the bonus of finally having someone that cooked for her because he insisted on doing the cooking for her. First Charles, and then Tom, each wrote a song about their love for their loving wife, Julia.

Surviving are sons; Mark (Jessica) Eaton, Shoals IN; Scott (Calle) Eaton, Cedar Pt. NC; Patrick Eaton, Indianapolis, IN; 11 grandchildren. 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents, Thurston, and Shirley; husbands, Charles and Thomas; and a son, David.
